The single father of a hardcore tomboy, children’s book illustrator Dylan Wrenter is out of his depth when he’s assigned to create a storybook for little girls instead of little boys. Then, when they move into an apartment across from two of the girliest women imaginable, his daughter Casey devises a plot to spy on their new neighbors as research for what girls are like.

From the opening…
Bree hurries into her kitchen — sweater, jeans, an artsy tote slung over one shoulder. She pours a cup of black coffee, tosses in a few mini marshmallows, and calls loudly for Heidi. A bundle of broom bristles WHACKS against the window from the apartment below. Setting down the mug, she hurries to open it.
Halfway down her hallway, a massive HOLE gapes between her apartment and the neighboring one. Heidi ducks through — hair frazzled, a colorful jacket half pulled over a frilly, white apron. “You know,” Bree says, “when we finally agreed to room together, I thought that would involve an actual opening between our apartments — not just… a hole.”
